Finally Broke Down And Did It

I’ve been hosting my blog from my house since its inception, but with the prospect of not being near my servers for maybe months (and the fact that one tends to go down every week or so) I decided to get myself a hosting provider and move my blog there.

So, if you’re reading this, it’s coming from the servers of webhost4life.com. Setup was a little sticky, but the techs there were able to get me fixed fairly quickly.

At least now I won’t have to haul ass home when something goes down to fix it, so that will be a nice change.

Whew

Had a database crash. Fortunately, I had a backup that ran two hours prior to the crash, and hadn’t posted since the backup, so all is restored again.

That was a close call.

I’ve Got Sunshine…On A Cloudy Day

So apparently, all the efforts to cut emissions from cars, factories, and the like have had an effect after all. The lower amount of air pollution is leading to “global brightening”, which means that the amount of sunshine reaching the ground is increasing. Yay, sunshine!

However, there is something else that comes along with global brightening.

More sunlight and thus heat reaching the ground could partly explain the record global temperatures reported in the late 1990s, and it could accelerate the warming trend.

So all the environmental laws we’ve put on the books to stop air pollution could be causing the so-called “global warming” effect?

How about that?

I Don’t Know Why

But I suddenly have a serious craving for a Mojito…

That Looks Better

I fixed the referrers section in my sidebar that was causing the sidebar to spill over into the main frame.

All is well again.

Google Me This, Batman

What did I search for yesterday?

Google is launching a service called “My Search History” whereby one can sign up and have all their searches logged for future retrieval.

I wish them luck with their service, but that’s just got divorce case subpoena written all over it.

Thanks, but I’ll pass.

The Joys Of Wireless

It seems one of my neighbors has recently acquired a wireless router. I’m surfing on it now. Must be fairly decent, our houses aren’t that close together, and I’m getting a 24Mbs connection.

They did nothing to secure it. No encryption, and they didn’t even change the default username and password on their router. So I have that up in another window. And they have a computer running, so I’m able to access everything on it as well.

And from the contents, I can tell which neighbor it is. I’m debating telling him about it. But then there’s the drawback of not having free Internet access via their connection. And the ability to read their emails and check out their photos.

Ok, I’m not that evil. I’ll tell him about it tomorrow.

And ask about the photos with the strippers. Even if his wife is there.

Paging Steve Austin

Your eye is ready.

US scientists have designed a bionic eye to allow blind people to see again.
It comprises a computer chip that sits in the back of the individual’s eye, linked up to a mini video camera built into glasses that they wear.

Images captured by the camera are beamed to the chip, which translates them into impulses that the brain can interpret.

The device has been designed by Professor Gislin Dagnelie at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore.

That’s just amazing. We may have cured blindness. That’s not just amazing, that’s staggering.

What, Is Everything Down Today?

Earlier I noticed that my site was loading slowly. Turned out to be the TrueFresco referrers list. So I took that out. About an hour ago, I noticed the Ecosystem was causing slow loads, so I took that out.

Now, Blogrolling seems to be down, and that’s causing my site to load slowly.

Arrrrgh.

Looks Like Blogrolling Is Down

Their web page doesn’t respond, which was killing mine. I had to take out a couple of blogrolls to get my page to load normally again.

Hopefully Blogrolling will be fixed soon and I can put them back in.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

UPDATE: Well, that was quick. Web page is back up, blogrolls loading normally. Don’t know how long that went on, nothing on their news page to indicate they even knew about it. Hopefully, it will stay fixed.

UPDATE II: Nope. Blogrolls off again. I think I’ll leave them off for a few hours and check back later.
