Much ado is being made about hitting the 2,500 dead US soldiers in Iraq mark. While each and everyone is a sad loss, for a three-year period during a war, that number is extrememly low.
For some perspective, check out these stats:
| American Revolution (1775?1783) | |
| Total servicemembers | 217,000 |
| Battle deaths | 4,435 |
| Nonmortal woundings | 6,188 |
| War of 1812 (1812?1815) | |
| Total servicemembers | 286,730 |
| Battle deaths | 2,260 |
| Nonmortal woundings | 4,505 |
| Indian Wars (approx. 1817?1898) | |
| Total servicemembers | 106,0001 |
| Battle deaths | 1,0001 |
| Mexican War (1846?1848) |
Monday is Juneteenth, so, as part of the celebration, the company at which I’m currently contracting is giving out free watermelon samples. And no, I’m not kidding. Believe it or not, a California court actually threw out San Francisco’s gun ban:
With all the bizarro-world rulings that come out of that state, it’s nice to see one go the right way for a change. And, I got a hat tip over at Michelle Malkin’s site. Merry Fitzmas, nutroots. Feel free to start gloating, I know I am. UPDATE: The more whining and crying I hear from the nutroots, the better my mood gets, hehe. Update: That flash movie was killing my page load time.
