Blessed Are The Assasins

In a dogmatic sense, Christians are generally peaceful people. You know, Crusades, Inquistions, and witch burnings aside. Jesus taught such concepts as love thy neighbor and do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

So when Pat Robertson, one of the most recognizable names in American Christendom, comes out and says that we should assasinate the President of Venezuela, it just seems a little weird to me.

“If he thinks we’re trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it,” Robertson told viewers on his “The 700 Club” show Monday. “It’s a whole lot cheaper than starting a war.”

“We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability,” Robertson said. “We don’t need another $200 billion war to get rid of one strong-arm dictator. It’s a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.”

I would say that maybe he’s off his meds, but that sounds quite a bit like our policy on Castro not that long ago…

  • Pat Robertson is just one of the "TV" preachers.

True Christians don’t care who the leader is, or what country they live in – they LEARN to be HAPPY, in whatever their circumstances are. (to quote an intellectual apostle) It’s one of the gifts of God. That is, having hope against hopelessness.

Additionally, true Christians don’t get so involved with political issues, just as they don’t want politicians involved in their affairs. (yes, I know that doesn’t SEEM to be the case, lately – those people scare US, also) Our citizenship is in Heaven. (at least, that’s what it says) So then, why do we care about the passing events in the world – the same evil deeds, done in like fashion, as thousands of evil men who came before these?

Christ told Pilate, upon questioning, "My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence." (no anti-semitism intended – it’s taken from it’s proper context) We don’t need to kill anyone. What ever happened to loving our enemies, and praying for them? Christ did this, EVEN when they were KILLING him.

Christ is a Christian’s ONLY example. Pat Robertson does NOT speak for me.
