They feel they have to get involved in this:
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – The Friday night lights in Texas could soon be without bumpin’ and grindin’ cheerleaders. Legislation filed by Rep. Al Edwards would put an end to “sexually suggestive” performances at athletic events and other extracurricular competitions.
“It’s just too sexually oriented, you know, the way they’re shaking their behinds and going on, breaking it down,” said Edwards, a 26-year veteran of the Texas House. “And then we say to them, ‘don’t get involved in sex unless it’s marriage or love, it’s dangerous out there’ and yet the teachers and directors are helping them go through those kind of gyrations.”
Under Edwards’ bill, if a school district knowingly permits such a performance, funds from the state would be reduced in an amount to be determined by the education commissioner.
Now we’re going to tell cheerleaders the types of movements they can and can’t make? I thought Democrats were for free expression. And who sets the rules? Does Rep. Edwards bring in a high school cheerleading team and have them run through the gamut of routines to decide? Then again, in order to know that’s it’s too sexually suggestive, I guess he’s done his research by staring at cheerleaders during the football games already.
What if the cheerleader trips and has to bend over to keep herself from falling down? That would seem sexually suggestive. And since when have Democrats told teens not to get involved in sex? They’ve been passing out condoms in schools, for Pete’s sake.
So eventually, we can end up in a situation where a cheerleader gyrates her hips too much, and the school gets its funding reduced. Do you think any sport will see the reduction? Not in Texas. High school football is nearly a religion here. Some poor kid who’s on the debate team, who might not ever have gone to a football game, won’t get to to go to a competition, because cuts had to be made somewhere.
This is just utterly ridiculous.
there really is no pleasing you people is there? a democrat comes out in favor of a repressive, tight-assed, over the top piece of legislation to try and legislate morality and your opposed to it? i would assume that the conservative base would applaud this, like they applaud censoring everything else (at least from any hint of sex, violence still sells well). but a democrat…politics seems to be what is driving this, not the issue (which is the current bread and butter of conservatives).
When we’re done giving this wrongheaded proposal the scorn it deserves, can we maybe do something about the FCC busybodies nosing their way into cable television?
Now THERE’S something I can agree with you on, Chet. The FCC has no business trying to regulate what goes out over cable and satellite signals to people’s homes. Especially when they’re paying for the content.
That, and the cheerleader law would make two things we can agree upon. We’re making progress
To make it three, I would say that the FCC trying to regulate cable and satellite TV is kind of like the sodomy laws. What happens in someone’s home is their business. I don’t want to speak for you, but I’m guessing you’d be with me on that point as well.
Although I am mostly conservative, I have very liberaterian views on some issues, and that would definitely be one of them.
It’s like the Ed Sullivan Show/Elvis Presley syndrome all over again. I’m sure that now that there may be legislation to "remove" provacative routines, you’ll probably see some that are done simply for how provacative they can be.
To me, it seems politicians have been stickin’ their noses into places where they have no business too often lately. Steroids, Cheerleadin’ routines… shit man. Don’t they have somethin’ more important to legislate?
I would like to see one article that shows a Democrat saying "teens should have sex."
However, I can show you several articles where Republicans think that teens wont have sex as long as they can’t find free condoms. You should know thats not the case, every 17 year old in Texas has at least 1 kid. I’ll bet they didn’t get pregnant from using a condom.
Assholes, go ahead and take away our bill of rights and we will go back the old way. Government and all of there agencies suck aslo.
Some conservatives aren’t too big on censorship. This seems a like miles away from indecent exposure. I can see the door swinging wide open for the ACLU to come marching through.
To get technical toad condoms are on 99% effective and some people just dont know how to properly put one on
Where do you find these winners, Evil? Or do they come to you?
