Kerry Says It’s Not Your Fault You’re In Jail

A story in the Washington Times today entitled “Kerry woos middle class” has some interesting bits in it, if you read all the way down to the last four paragraphs:

Talking about education yesterday, Mr. Kerry also told the largely black crowd at the day care center that there are more blacks in prison than in college.
“That’s unacceptable,” he said. “But it’s not their fault.”
Rather than the inmates, the former Boston prosecutor blamed poverty, poor schools, a dearth of after-school programs and “all of us as adults not doing what we need to do.”

I would like to be surprised by this, but I’m not. It’s not a criminal’s fault he’s in jail, it’s society, racist police, “the man”, anything but blaming the criminal for his own misdeeds. Perhaps Kerry should ask someone (someone who’s not a liberal, they wouldn’t know) what “personal responsibility” is.

It’s like this. Your life is the sum of the choices you make in it. You choose to stay in school, study hard, and go to college, you have a very good chance of becoming a productive citizen. However, if you choose to start doing drugs, and drop out of school, your employment opportunities are going to be very limited. Even if you can find a job, I can guarantee you it won’t pay very well. And if at this point in your life you choose to commit crimes to supplement your income, when you get caught and end up in prison, you have no one but yourself to blame.

But liberals don’t think like that. There is always someone or something to blame for everything. In this case, Kerry blames poverty, poor schools, and a lack of after-school programs. Well, guess what that means? He either didn’t say it, or the Washington Times didn’t bother to include it, but all that means is that Kerry thinks that government needs to spend more money on these “problems“ so that black people can stay out of jail. Well, if you believe that government should hold your hand your whole life and guide you, it sounds reasonable, right? Of course, that will mean higher taxes for the evil rich to pay for it, but they already have too much money anyway, right? So no harm done there. And do you think the Republicans are going to spend more money on things to keep black people out of jail? Kerry will tell you no, but if you look at the federal budget the last few years in regards to poverty and schools, it speaks for itself. But Kerry will lie and say tell people that Republicans want to cut any such programs (he hasn’t yet that I know of, but the campaign’s not over). So in order to keep black people out of jail, you have to vote for Kerry and any other Democrat running for office.

Kind of a vicious cycle, isn’t it? People who forgo personal responsibility and commit crimes will always wind up in jail, and there will always be a liberal there to tell people it’s not their fault, and that if the government would just spent more money on the “problems“, everything would be OK.
