Just when I thought things were going better for the Border Patrol, I saw an AP story today that deflated any enthusiasm that I had recently acquired. Border Patrol agents are being issued new uniforms, and some of them are quite angered at what they’re finding in them. A “Made in Mexico“ label.
The uniforms are made by a company called VF Solutions in Nashville. Their contract stipulates that they are allowed to subcontract to factories in the US, Mexico, Canada, and the Dominican Republic. Frankly, I personally find this very upsetting, although I can almost see humor in the irony.
How hard can it be to find a company in this country that can make uniforms for our Border Patrol agents at a reasonable price? This is America, after all. Rich Pierce, the executive VP of the National Border Patrol Council, agrees: “Why can’t we have uniforms made in the U.S.? … The other agents I’ve talked to all think this is some bad joke.”
I guess if the Border Patrol is looking to start rounding up more illegal aliens, they can scratch clothing factories off their list of places to look. Apparently low-cost illegal labor won’t be found there. If the US government wants to save a few bucks, I have much better ideas than to have our Border Patrol uniforms made in Mexico.
Joining the Beltway Traffic Jam…
If Mexicans have good jobs in Mexico they aren’t going to try illegally entering the U.S. More of this would be a Good Thing.
